Integrative Coaching FAQ

What is integrative coaching?

Integrative coaching is an approach that blends diverse elements from various coaching methodologies, psychological theories, and personal development practices into a cohesive and customized coaching process. Integrative coaching is a powerful and transformative approach to personal development that considers the whole person. By integrating various coaching techniques and social work theories, I offer clients a well-rounded and tailored coaching experience. At its heart, integrative coaching acknowledges the interconnectedness of different aspects of an individual’s life, including their biology, emotions, thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, and values. Through enhanced self-awareness, improved emotional intelligence, and a focus on holistic well-being, individuals can achieve their goals and lead more fulfilling lives.

Do you only coach people with addiction?

Currently, my coaching clients are individuals and/or family members affected by addiction. They are typically actively working a recovery program, and in the process of rebuilding their lives from the chaos and damage done from active addiction. I also work with family members and loved one's of the recovering addict. I apply my integrative approach to explore “who” you are without drugs and alcohol, your strengths, processing styles, behavior preferences, needs, values, and unique neuro functions since stopping drug and alcohol use, identify areas of limitation, frustration, and obstruction, what is getting in the way of achieving your goals and create new actions to move you toward your desired outcomes. This process involves experimenting with new ways of thinking, knowing that not all solutions will work for all people and that some solutions may only work for a period before needing adjustment.

Are you a Recovery Coach?

Yes, and No. Yes, my process and approach is to provide recovery related social and emotional support, by sharing my own recovery experiences and integrative coaching framework to support clients road to sustained recovery. Together we will look at recovery supportive friendships, reconnecting or improving family and friend relationships. No, I do not do case management, I do not connect individuals to specific recovery programs, nor navigate other relevant systems such as Massachusetts Rehab Commission, Criminal Justice, Child Protection/Child Welfare. I do not accompany clients to court, or find county, state, or federal resources agencies to assist in their recovery, nor transport clients.

How does coaching work?

I work with you to recognize areas of limitation, frustration, and obstruction, identify specific outcomes, explore possibilities, remove obstacles, and reach your desired result. Coaching can help you expand your awareness of what is possible and move you into the action needed to reach your chosen objectives. Through conversation and support, I act as a sounding board, educator, motivator, and accountability partner to support you in making lasting change in your life.

What happens in a coaching session?

We will meet via video conferencing. During the Intake Session I focus on learning about you: we take a deep dive into your strengths, where you have challenges, what you would like to achieve from coaching, and how we might work together.

In subsequent sessions, we will work toward your personal objectives. We focus on what you want to change, what is getting in your way, and how we can use your strengths to develop strategies and actions for success. Clients often leave our sessions with some work to be accomplished prior to our next session. This work can be an assignment, a new routine, or new behavior to implement.

There is no one-size-fits-all session, so it is possible sessions could look different depending on what is best for you.

Is coaching therapy?

Coaching in not therapy. Therapy often focuses on healing pain, dysfunction, and conflict from the past. Integrative coaching is about helping you become clear on where you are now (present), and the ability to move forward (future) towards where you want to be. We will take a look at your past, to help move forward.

Because of my social work background and expertise, I know what kind of space supports success, and I know when to refer clients for therapy.

How long do clients typically work with a coach?

The duration of coaching depends on the client’s needs and goals. Because change takes time, it is recommended a client commit to an initial three to six months of coaching. Every session is tailored to what’s right for you. I have worked with some individuals for a few months and others for a few years.

I want to see you reach your identified outcomes as quickly as possible and create a lasting foundation for continued success. The number of coaching sessions and the session interval (weekly, biweekly, etc.) is established at the time of the Intake Session. We also identify “check-ins” to evaluate progress and evaluation.

Does insurance cover coaching services?
